Did You Know?
- Our oldest Oak on the estate dates from the 13th century - it would have been an acorn when the Magna was signed.
- We have pieces of the Giant's causeway in the garden at Ickworth.
- The entire village of Dunwich fell in to the sea due to coastal erosion, and when the wind blows at the dead of night, you can still hear the eerie church bells ring from under the sea.
- The Suffolk Punch is one of the oldest draft breeds, possibly dating back to 1506 - sadly the breeding lines are close to running out.
- Greene King have been brewing on the same site, three miles away in bury St Edmunds since 1799 - four years after the building work commenced on Ickworth House.
- The riverside village of Walberswick hosts the British Open Crabbing championship in August every year.
- The Nutshell in Bury St Edmunds is the smallest pub in England - don't make it a family occasion!
