Autumn has arrived, let’s look ahead

The summer holidays are drawing to a close and many parents will be rejoicing as their beloved children head back to school, but we think this is a great time to start thinking about your next family getaway.

Under the meteorological definition, which is based on the Gregorian calendar, autumn officially begins on September 1. So, as we enter into this beautiful and refreshing season, we take a look forward to what you can do across Suffolk.

The number one thing on our list in the dramatic Suffolk countryside is walking. What a great season to take a walk; the early autumn weather is mild, the air crisp and the trees will start to burst into their wonderful kaleidoscope of colours… gorgeous.

The Ickworth is located on a breathtakingly beautiful National Trust estate with 1800 acres of parkland and ancient trees, we are dog friendly too, so please do bring along the family dog.

With the whole family well exercised, what better way to follow a walk than sitting on a soft sofa in The Ickworth’s comfortable lounge, with Afternoon Tea or a nice glass of red wine where there are two large roaring fires offering a warm welcome.

September and October are a great time to visit Suffolk, not least because of the abundance of local produce on offer during this harvest period. Below is a list of local foodie events and our Head Chef George Aldous has created some wonderful seasonal dishes to try here at The Ickworth. A highlight of this new menu would have to be the tantalising Fallow deer, black kale and beetroot dish which is sourced locally from the Denham Estate.
