Things to do in Suffolk

If you can tear yourself away, you’ll find plenty to see and do.

On the edge of the village of Horringer, and close to Bury St Edmunds and the River Cam, the Ickworth Hotel is surrounded by verdant countryside. Stay local or enjoy days out in Cambridge, Colchester and Newmarket.

Just beyond the hotel grounds is an array of fantastic family days out. A few miles north is the Anglo-Saxon Village and Country Park of West Stow, with family activities, nature trails, farm animals, living history events and galleries.

To the west of Ickworth is the magnificent architecture of Cambridge, where ancient university buildings, museums and art galleries line the banks of the River Cam. If your children are into aircrafts, tanks, military vehicles and boats, you’re not far from Duxford’s Imperial War Museum; or, if you fancy losing yourself – or your children – for a while, head to the seasonal Milton Maize Maze, with its family fun field, go karts, pet paddock and tractor rides.

Animal lovers won’t want to miss out on Colchester Zoo – considered to be one of the finest in Europe, with over 260 species and 60 acres of parkland and lakes. Petrol-heads looking for fast-paced fun can zoom to the Wild Tracks Off Road Activity Park for quad biking, motocross, four-wheel driving and target activities from clay pigeon shooting to archery.

Whatever your passions and interests, our staff are always on hand to help you organise day trips and give you an insider’s guide to the local area. Check through our list of local activities and attractions to start planning your stay.
